EZMarquee, just like other marquees mentioned in this section, by itself is a slave device. It displays whatever information is sent to it by a master which could be either a PLC, a PC or an Embedded Controller. This information can be sent over a serial connection like RS232/422/485 in ASCII format, or Ethernet or DeviceNet or Profibus. It does not store any messages either. Many applications have the need to trigger preprogrammed messages or display the contents of a scaled process variable. For example, take a 4-20 mA reading from a pressure transmitter and display digital equivalent. Or you may simply want to display
production count and rate at the end of a production line without having to go to a PLC and deal with writing ladder logic for it.
