General Description :
Most Touchpanel manufacturers including AVG (since 1992) started out using proprietary or dedicated operating system for two reasons. First, code for proprietary Operating system was simpler since it was dedicated to performing touchpanel functions as compared to the code for more general purpose windows Operating system. Second it consumed much less memory. However most proprietary operating systems used in touchpanels such as Panelview from Allen Bradley, Quickpanel from Total control products and PGI from Uticor, could produce only limited graphics. The need for better graphics and ethernet capability led to most manufacturers starting to offer Windows CE Operating system in their newer touchpanels, like Panelview Plus from Allen Bradley and Quick Panelview from GE. However with Windows comes its traditional baggage like boot-up, memory hogging, OS components conflicts, OS under Microsoft’s control and a slower response time, even though this baggage is getting lesser with time.
AVG changed the course of touchpanels by its revolutionary design of EZSeries introduced in 2001, which gave the user PC like graphics without using the Windows OS. This was the paradigm shift indeed!
Now AVG is introducing a unique Ethernet capability while still using the proprietary, memory frugal, dedicated & high speed touch response in its EZSeries touchpanels. We call it Remote Monitoring and Control (RMC) allows the user to monitor and control the touchpanel anywhere in the world where there is internet. It is a great benefit for OEMs and System Integrators to troubleshoot a system problem over the internet without leaving their desks, saving thousands of dollars in field trip expenses.
This is also a great tool for management/quality personnel in any plant to monitor production over intranet. And all this is available (even field upgradable on existing EZSeries Touchpanels) for an incredible low price for just $99 for the add-on RMC card and $99 for RMC software that resides in your PC.
